Should I...

…send my mother the link to my blog? I'm considering it, mostly because I'm terrible about writing emails. Having a blog helps make up for that a little bit. But do I really want my mum reading this? Read more...

Haka

The haka is a war dance/chant traditionally performed by Maori warriors. It was originally used to invoke the god of war and to intimidate the opponents before battle. Today, it is probably most famously used by New Zealand's national rugby team, the All Blacks. It is also performed ceremonially on formal occasions, often as a welcome [...] Read more...

Flowers are evil!

Allergies are driving me insane. My eyes and nose are all red and puffy and watering, my whole body is itching. I look like a fat kid who's been crying all night. God damn you, pollen! Read more...

Misi loves Nylon

Borgar: The cat is mad at you. You were so noisy that he couldn't hear his favourite song! Sarah: Oh? What song was it? Borgar: A Nylon song. He likes Nylon. He's in love with the fat one. Sarah: There's a fat one in Nylon? Borgar: Of course there's a fat one! There's always a fat one. Sarah: There is [...] Read more...

Bitch bartender

Some things I wish I could make customers understand: If I decide I'm not going to serve you alcohol, yelling abuse at me and/or other customers, throwing a chair across the room, etc, will not cause me to change my mind. Do NOT specifically order a single latte, then complain that it's too weak. Removing the non-smoking sign [...] Read more...

Secret fantasy

Today I received a message asking me whether I was working this evening. Not recognising the number, I replied that yes, I was working, and asked who it was that wanted to know. The sender did not answer my question, but proceeded to send messages in mangled Icelandic asking me where & until when I was [...] Read more...

I was recently introduced to the amazing works of Jim Woodring by Mr.Krilli. Woodring's work makes you feel like you're hallucinating. Well, d'Holbachie Yoko's work makes you feel like you're hallucinating, whilst looking at Woodring's work. Oddly enough, I can't seem to find much reference to the fact that she is clearly strongly influenced by him. There's [...] Read more...

This week's news in cinnamon:

1. Raffael at Babalú is hoping to put cinnamon coffee on the menu. 1 shot of coffee, tsp of honey, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, steamed milk; served in a Turkish tea-glass. Delicious! 2. Vísir on Laugavegur is now selling Big Red chewing-gum. I remember in high school some kid came back from the US with tons [...] Read more...

Child abuse

Some day I will probably have kids and will have to come up with names reflecting their Aussie-Icelandic heritage. Here are the best I've come up with so far: For a girl: Kylie Guðrún Járnþrúður Chantelle Raelene Ragnheiður Margaret Margrét (Maggie Magga for short) Ingibjörg Narelle For a boy: Bruce Þór Sigtryggur Craig Jason Einar (JasoNeinar…heheh!) Víkingur Shane Borgar Warren (Borgzor Wazza) I'm especially hoping for boy-girl twins so [...] Read more...

May resolutions

1) Listen to more music, watch less TV Watching TV makes me feel crappy. I never used to, but somehow I've gotten into the habit of turning it on during the evenings when I'm tired and don't have energy for much else. Unless I've been watching something remarkably good, it usually just makes me feel vaguely depressed and [...] Read more...

Argh!

It's 2am and I'm sick with a bad cold, feverish and feeling like hell. I just got a message telling me that I'm working tomorrow morning from 9-16 and to go there now and pick up the keys! More annoyingly still is that it's completely my fault. I don't normally work that shift so I totally [...] Read more...
